The Forgotten Island

Precious woke with a start, her heart pounding like a drum. She blinked at the bright sunlight streaming through the lush leaves above her. Confused, she pushed herself up from the soft, damp ground. Where was she? The last thing she remembered was falling asleep during a movie night with her best friends, Nik and Nyah.

As she looked around, her bewilderment deepened. They were on a tropical island, surrounded by towering palm trees, vibrant flowers, and a gentle breeze that carried the scent of salt and adventure. Precious called out, "Nik? Nyah?"

“Over here!” a voice echoed beside her. Turning, Precious saw Nik and Nyah emerging from behind a bush, equally disoriented.

“Do you have any idea how we got here?” Nyah asked, brushing a strand of hair away from her face.

“Nope,” Nik shrugged, looking around in wonder. “But it really looks like we’ve been dropped off on… like, a deserted island!”

Precious felt a shiver of excitement mixed with fear run down her spine. “This is like one of those adventure movies!”

The three friends exchanged nervous glances. “What do we do now?” Precious pondered aloud.

“Find food?” Nik suggested. “We could be here a while.”

“Good idea!” Nyah agreed, rubbing her belly. “I’m starving!”

They began their journey through the thick greenery, laughter mingling with their anxious hearts as they forged onward. The island was alive with sounds—birds chirping upbeat tunes, leaves rustling in rhythm with the wind, and the lively chattering of unseen creatures.

Success came soon as they reached the edge of a small clearing. Before them stood a cluster of trees heavy with ripe coconuts, alongside a towering banana tree and a pineapple bush bursting with sweet potential.

“Bingo!” Nik shouted, rushing over to the coconut tree.

Precious, not to be outdone, climbed up the trunk and, with a skillful kick, knocked a coconut to the ground. Nyah giggled as she collected the fallen bounty. They quickly sat in a circle, each munching on the fresh fruit, the sun setting beautifully behind them. Each bite was a burst of flavor, energizing their spirits.

“Okay, let's figure out where we are,” Precious said after they had feasted. She pointed toward a distant ridge where old stone structures peeked through the foliage, partially hidden by vines and branches. “That looks like it could be a town. Let’s check it out!”

With a mix of trepidation and thrill, the friends set off toward the ridge. As they approached, it became clear that the remnants of the town told tales from a long-lost civilization. The buildings were covered in green, nature reclaiming her domain. It felt like walking through a dream.

“I wonder who lived here,” Nyah mused, running her fingers over the mossy stones of a crumbling wall.

“Do you think they just... left?” Nik asked, a hint of spooky curiosity in his voice.

Precious felt a shiver run down her spine again. The air felt heavy with stories untold.

Suddenly, an eerie silence enveloped them, urging them to tread carefully. “What if they didn’t leave?” she whispered, pulling the others closer.

“Stop it!” Nyah giggled nervously, though her eyes sparkled with adventure.

As they wandered deeper into the town, Precious spotted mosaics depicting joyful scenes of families, festivals, and music. “Look at this!” she exclaimed, pointing to a series of tiles. “They used to celebrate life here.”

But as precious moments of joy were recalled, a chill swept through the air, and shadows shifted between the trees. The friends looked at one another, eyes wide and hearts racing.

“Let’s get out of here,” Nik suggested briskly, but it was too late. They felt the air shift—the excitement turning into suspense.

Thick fog began to rise, obscuring their vision. “Stay together!” Precious urged her friends. They huddled close, breaths quickening as they felt more than just the presence of the forest. Whispers echoed through the mist, names long forgotten dancing through the air.

“Is someone there?” Nyah called out hesitantly.

The atmosphere grew charged, electric with anticipation. And then, as if summoned, ancient figures emerged from the fog—guardians of the island, with eyes shimmering like the stars above.

“We’ve been waiting,” one guardian spoke, voice soft yet powerful. “You carry the spirit of exploration. Many have come before, and the island remembers. Together, you awaken what was lost.”

Precious, now bold, stepped forward. “What do we need to do?”

“You must honor this place, share its stories, and remember its joy. Then you may return home,” the guardian instructed.

Understanding dawned on Precious as she nodded, filled with purpose. “Let’s share this adventure. We’ll tell everyone what we found!”

The friends looked at one another, their fear melting away amidst resolve. They began sharing stories of friendship, laughter, and their wonderful island experience, igniting the magic of the once-lost civilization.

As they spoke, the guardians smiled, and the mist began to clear.

“Now you may return,” the guardian said gently.

With a blink, they found themselves back in Precious's living room, the movie still flickering on the screen. The friends, eyes wide with wonder, burst into laughter. Though the island was gone, its spirit remained within them forever.

“Who would’ve thought a movie night could lead to an adventure like that?” Nik grinned.

“Next time, we should bring snacks just in case!” Nyah joked as they leaned back into their cushions, ready for another tale, their hearts filled with the thrill of exploration and the joy of sharing their story.
